December, 2015

Dear friends,

It seems that each day in the news there is some tragedy, some shooting, some natural disaster taking place in our country.  The headlines repeat the same horrific news week after week. It is as if the Lord has lifted His hand of protection that was over our land in times past to allow us to see what happens when any nation as a whole plainly disregards the clear revelation of His Word. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord”, Ps.  33:12. America was never truly a Christian nation –no geographical nation is.  The only “nation” that He recognizes are those who know His Son (I Peter 2:9). In the past, we were identified as a nation that was clearly favorable to the Christian faith and we reaped the results – worldwide leadership in just about every category.  But that condition no longer exists. Like Israel, “we have sown the wind and reaped the whirlwind”, Hosea 8:7. We too, are reaping the results reflected in the news every week. Thankfully however, the Lord speaks peace to His people (Psalm 85:8) and gives the inward assurance as we read His Word, that He is still on the throne, ruling over all. At this time of year, perhaps more than ever before, let’s tell others of the avenue that they have to know that true peace is available through the Prince of Peace, the One who Scripture also declares to be the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, Isa. 9:6-7.  May all of us, sense His peace in a special way in the days ahead.

Yours in Christ,

Mark and Cindy Kolchin – Phil. 1:6

Speaking Ministry & Travels

The month of November began with a Bible prophecy weekend at Greenwood Hills in PA. We enjoyed a weekend together as a family with the New Hampshire Ave Gospel Chapel that meets in Silver Spring, MD. It was an enjoyable time as we considered God’s plan for the ages and some of the prominent aspects of biblical prophecy and what is on the horizon, prophetically.  Later that week, we traveled with 23 other people to Lancaster PA, for a Collingsworth Family Concert, enjoying an overnight at the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn, a familiar place to us with past Know the Word conferences. It was a wonderful time with uplifting musical selections and hymns from this outstanding and very talented family. The month concluded with a conference in Canada in which I was asked to speak on the topic of NT Deacons. This subject is gaining interest in many circles and a lot of assemblies are reviewing their current arrangement in the light of the scripture’s teaching on this important topic. If you would like a copy of the two messages that I gave on this topic, just contact me by phone or email.

November Midweek Fellowship Luncheon

The midweek fellowship luncheons after 23 years continue to be a source of blessing and a great time of uplifting fellowship and ministry to encourage our hearts together in the Lord. November’s luncheon was at Crestwood Manor in Whiting. Don Dunkerton brought the message and Jerry Risden brought the special music. What made this luncheon so special is that it gave the opportunity for the Bible study group that has been meeting over the past 20 years in that location to join us. It was another uplifting time in the Lord, as each one of these luncheons is.

“Day by Day through the Bible” Publication

During the month, we also received the completed copy of the Day by Day series that we were asked to participate in. This is a compilation of writers from both the USA and the United Kingdom who have agreed to write a series of devotionals during a selected month.

This is the third time that I was involved in this type of project which although very challenging, is also very rewarding. If you would like a copy, let me know.

Family News

As for our family news goes, all quiet on the home front – well, sort of.  Cindy is busy homeschooling all the kids which, if anyone is familiar is a feat in itself with just one person. She is doing it for all four kids, at once!  We have also had a few health matters come up recently (muscle-related, getting older, for sure!), so we would appreciate your prayer for this. There have been a few trips to the doctors, which tightens the schedule, to say the least. Also, we have also begun the process of looking to replace our oldest car which now has nearly 200k miles on it. Just another thing to work into the schedule! Thank you again for your prayers for us as we seek to faithfully serve the Lord.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creation shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:38–39)

And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.”    Ecc. 12:9-11
