Making Room for New Trees

“To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3

“When it is time to remove the older trees, we circle them to make way for the younger trees”, the park guide told our little group. “What do you mean, ‘circle them’?, I asked.” “Well” he said, “when it is time for the older trees to be removed, we cut a circle around the bark to slow their lives so that the younger trees will take their place and begin the process of growing deeper, stronger roots” to eventually replace the older trees. Likewise, many an older saint after standing tall for the Lord through many years of service may be slowed down making the way for a new generation to take their place in the service for the Lord and stand for Him.

“Faith of our fathers” we will love both friend and foe in all our strife.
And preach thee, too as love knows how, by kindly words and virtuous life.”
